A man walked away unharmed from a single-vehicle wreck that saw the car submerged in a shallow creek on Mississippi Highway 182 Sunday evening.
County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan told the Starkville Daily News the driver, traveling westbound in a Chevy Malibu, left the road and smashed into the metal guardrail before going down the hill into an outshoot of Josey Creek just a short distance from Horsefeathers.
“He went off and hit the end of the guardrail and sheered some posts, and on the one hand he’s lucky he didn’t hit (the guardrail) and stop,” Rosenhan said.
Rosenhan said the call came in about 6:05 p.m.
“Luckily there wasn’t any more water,” he continued, noting how shallow the creek was.
A wrecker was able to pull the submerged car from the creek before sundown
The driver of the car was the only person in the vehicle and was unharmed by the wreck. He declined to comment at the scene following the incident.
The Adaton/Self Creek Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol were the responding agencies.
MHP is the agency in charge of the investigation.
