Authorities have released new information about the alleged 2x4 assault at the Cook Out on June 9, which is currently under construction on Highway 12 in Starkville.

Charles Douglas, 53, struck an unidentified victim in the back of the head and other locations with a wooden 2x4 with nails sticking out of it, court documents claim.

Douglas was arrested without incident following the alleged assault, and charged with aggravated assault-use of a deadly weapon. He could face 1 to 20 years in jail and a $10,000 fine, according to the criminal complaint.

No information was released on the unidentified victim's condition, according to the Starkville Police Department.

His initial Municipal Court appearance is set for 2 p.m., July 11.

Douglas was a contractor working for The Dirt Company on the renovations of the old Arby's into the new Cook Out restaurant during his arrest. The popular southeast chain is set to open later this month, according to Community Development Director Buddy Sanders. No specific date has been announced, he said.
