Starkville Utilities is urging caution from motorists as the department plans to close a bustling stretch of road today to address underground water infrastructure.
The work will impact both northbound lanes of Spring Street and Highway 12 near Chick-fil-A beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Starkville Utilities General Manager Terry Kemp said there is a water leak from a main line going under the area. Work on the water main was postponed last week.
“We are going to dig all the way down, probably 15 feet or so and then resolve the water seepage then put it back together,” Kemp said.
He then said they expect the road to be open by the end of the day Tuesday.
“It’s just in a bad location and a lot of traffic there,” Kemp said. “We just want people to be mindful going through there.”
