A Starkville man is facing an aggravated assault charge after police say he hit an individual with a car in mid-June.

According to court documents provided to the Starkville Daily News through a public records request, 67-year-old Bob Brooks is accused of running into the unnamed victim with a 2006 Mercedes-Benz S350 and accelerating the car until the victim was thrown from the hood.

It is unclear at this time what caused Brooks to hit the victim with the vehicle.

Brooks was served the aggravated assault warrant in Starkville Municipal Court on Monday, where bond was set at $5,000. He was released from the Oktibbeha County Jail shortly after being served the warrant.

SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said the injuries to the victim were not life-threatening.

Starkville Police say the incident occurred on June 12 on Lindbergh Boulevard.

Brooks is charged with one count of aggravated assault. If found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.

The next scheduled municipal court date for Brooks is set for Aug. 16 at 2 p.m.
