Starkville Police say they are actively searching for a second suspect following a kidnapping incident that resulted in the arrest of a Starkville teen on Tuesday.
Jaquiores Dyshawne Boyd, 14, had his initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court on Wednesday and stood in tears with his crying mother as the charges were read aloud by City Prosecutor Caroline Moore.
SPD Detective Jonathan Headley took the witness stand during a probable cause hearing and said the victims identified Boyd as one of the suspects who forced his way into the apartment and held two people against their will at gunpoint on Monday.
Headley said Boyd knew the 12-year-old daughter of the one of the victims in the apartment.
He then said police are actively looking for a second suspect in the case, but did not provide further details from the witness stand.
According to court documents obtained by the Starkville Daily News through a public records request, Boyd is accused of forcing his way into the dwelling at Brooksville Garden apartments in the 300 block of Everglade Avenue Monday.
Once inside he held two female victims and five children in the apartment. None of the victims were physically harmed during the incident.
However, Boyd is accused of removing a black handgun from his jacket and pushing the barrel of the gun against one of the victim’s head to keep her from fleeing.
Kidnapping carries up to a life sentence in prison and is a capital offense, which is why Boyd is being charged as an adult.
It is unclear at this time if Boyd will face additional charges.
Municipal Court Judge Rodney Faver appointed public defender Mark Williamson to the case.
Boyd will remain in the Oktibbeha County Jail until he can post bail. His bond has been set at $200,000 total for two counts of kidnapping.
Boyd’s next scheduled court appearance is set for July 9 at 6 p.m.
