Mississippi State wide receiver Reggie Todd was arrested on a simple assault charge Tuesday after turning himself in at the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office as a result of warrants issued in the case.
Todd was allegedly involved in an altercation with another male at a party earlier in the week. The original call was investigated as an aggravated assault, but investigators later determined a misdemeanor simple assault was the appropriate charge. After his arrest, Todd was released on a $1,000 bond.
MSU head football coach Joe Moorhead said in a statement that Todd has been suspended indefinitely from the team.
“We are aware of the incident involving Reggie Todd,” Moorhead said. “Reggie has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities. We will have no further comment on the matter at this time.”
Todd played in all 13 games for MSU in his freshman year last season. The Mobile, Alabama, native caught 14 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown.
With his 6-foot-4 inch, 200-pound frame, Todd has been expected to play an even bigger role for the Bulldogs this season as a deep threat in Moorhead’s offense.
Todd is scheduled for a July 10 court date in Oktibbeha County Justice Court.
