A Starkville man pleaded guilty to a statutory rape charge in May after being accused of having sex with a Starkville High School student in the school’s locker room last September.
According to Oktibbeha County Circuit Court records, Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens accepted the guilty plea entered by 21-year-old Shytraille Spruell last month and sentenced him to 11 years in prison, with five years suspended.
Spruell will have to serve six years, and will then have five years of post release supervision, along with a $500 fine. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
The Starkville Daily News previously reported that Spruell was accused of having sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old student in a locker room at Starkville High School on or about Sept. 13.
An Oktibbeha County Grand Jury indicted Spruell on the statutory rape charge in January.
Spruell was arrested last October and booked into the Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set at $10,000 and had his initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017.
