The Upsilon Pi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will host its Healthy, Wealthy and Wise Health Fair Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Starkville Sportsplex.

AKA President Ann Carr said around 20 vendors will be set up offering information, screenings and giveaways from health care providers across the Golden Triangle.

"The health fair is something we've done for a couple of years, and its basically just to make people aware of being healthy," Carr said. "This year's theme is ‘Healthy, Wealthy and Wise' and we're drawing attention to making good choices about your health."

This year's event will also feature free onsite fitness classes taught by H.I.I.C. Cardio Instructor Jennifer Graham at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

New to this year, the AKA Health Fair will offer onsite vaccinations from a Walgreens pharmacist at little or no cost with insurance.

The shingles vaccine Shingrix and Tdap vaccine, which is required for those entering seventh grade, will be offered at the health fair.

The Glam Station and Spa will offer free chair massages for early birds and then for $10 after.

"This is an opportunity for us to bring vendors to the Sportsplex, because people are not always able to get out sometimes, and this way we can bring vendors to the community so they can get these services done either for free or at a small cost," Carr said.

Carr said vision and cholesterol screenings will be offered, and Starkville Police Department will be onsite to offer information about healthy living, such as avoiding drinking and driving.

"We want people to be able to get all the information about how to live healthy in 2018 and going forward," Carr said.
