A former Columbus-Lowndes Airport employee has been released on bond after being charged with embezzlement.
Special Agents from the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor arrested former Columbus-Lowndes Airport Manager Billy Scarborough for embezzlement on Monday.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering's office said Scarborough was also served a demand of $14,490.81, which includes interest and investigative costs.
While in his position as airport manager, Scarborough is accused of obtaining over 2,000 gallons of unleaded and/or diesel fuel from Columbus Public Works.
The fuel was obtained outside the scope of Scarborough’s duties as airport manager.
In an unrelated criminal case, the State Auditor says Scarborough had been previously arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for alleged theft of airplane parts.
Scarborough was released after bond was set at $7,500.
