The vandalism to the bathroom near the splash pad at J.L. King Memorial Park has been repaired.
Starkville Parks and Recreation Department interim Director Gerry Logan said damaged boards on the exterior of the building were replaced and repainted.
Logan said the department got a quote from an exterior company for the repairs that would cost around $1,000, but Maintenance Director Trent Helms and other Parks employees were able to do the repairs for under $500, saving the city hundreds of dollars.
“We wanted to get everything fixed and looking nice as soon as possible,” Logan said. “We plan on opening the splash pad up very soon.”
The vandalism occurred late May 5 or early May 6, and it appeared to be caused by rocks being thrown at the Hardie Board siding of the bathroom resulting in a several large holes.
