The Starkville Civitan Club will host its annual steak dinner fundraiser over the weekend to raise money for special needs children in the Starkville and Oktibbeha County community.
The steaks will be sold 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. or until sold out Saturday at Vowell's Market Place.
All proceeds will be used to support programs for children with special needs.
Proposals will be received from Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District teachers and other organizations, and will then be reviewed for their merits and broader impacts on how they enhance education for children will special needs.
If funds are available, grants would also be made to support student teachers at Mississippi State University who work with students diagnosed with autism.
Starkville Civitan President Robert Johnston said last year's fundraiser raised around $3,000 for children in the community, and this year the club hopes to have even more success.
"Everyone in Civitan Club from its beginning in Birmingham over 100 years ago has had children with special needs as its primary focus, and the Starkville club is no different," Johnston said. "We seek to serve these children in our community to the best of our abilities."
