A boil water notice will be issued on Tuesday for customers of the Oktoc Water Association in the area of South Montgomery Street to, and including, Mount Olive Road.
Manager Jack Rhoades told the Starkville Daily News the interruption of service is the result of the utility having to move a water main in the Stone Ridge subdivision after a house was built on top of the line.
Water service will be disconnected for a short time tomorrow, then the area will be under a boil water notice for three or four days.
Rhoades said hopefully the advisory will be lifted by Friday and the service interruption is expected to last roughly eight hours on Tuesday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends, if the water is cloudy, to filter it through a clean cloth, paper towel, or coffee filter or allow it to settle, draw off the clear water, bring the clear water to a rolling boil for one minute, let the boiled water cool and store the boiled water in clean sanitized containers with tight covers.
If the water is clear during the boil water advisory, the CDC recommends bringing the clear water to a rolling boil for one minute, before letting it cool and storing it in a clean, sanitized container.
Boiling is cited as the most effective method of killing disease-causing organisms, including viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
The CDC also says the flat taste of boil water can be improved by pouring it from one container to another and then allowing it to stand for a few hours, or by adding a pinch of salt for each quart or liter of boiled water.
