Orangetheory Fitness will soon open a new location in downtown Starkville in the Midtown development on the corner of Montgomery Street and University Drive.
Contractor for the development Jeffrey Harless, of Harless and Company, said Orangetheory Fitness is scheduled to open in early August.
“I’m happy to see Orangetheory come in,” Greater Starkville Development Partnership President Scott Maynard said. “I think it is one of the hottest fitness facilities in the country right now, and it will make a great addition to the Midtown area.”
According to the Orangetheory Fitness company, the concept involves a 60-minute workout broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training. Participants burn an average of 500-plus total calories per 60-minute training session, but individual results vary. Led by trained coaches, each Orangetheory Fitness workout incorporates endurance, strength and power elements through a variety of equipment including treadmills, rowing machines, TRX suspension training and free weights.
Participants are provided a heart-rate monitor, according to the company, to monitor the five-zone interval training sessions called the Orange 60. During the course of a one-hour session, participants perform multiple intervals designed to produce at least 12 minutes of training at 84 percent or higher of their individual maximum heart rate, which translates to Zone 4 or 5.
Participants use the entire body, stimulating metabolism and feeling increased energy after each interval.
Harless said the studio will create eight to 10 full-time and part-time jobs, including a manager, coaches and sales associates.
Harless said Orangetheory Fitness will set up a booth on-site in the development’s leasing office to sign up members before the studio opens.
Harless said the 3,100-square-foot business will be one of six to occupy the bottom floor of Midtown. The remaining leases are being finalized, and the other businesses will be announced in a few weeks.
Harless said 66 apartment units will occupy the upper floors, all of which have been rented except for two three-bedroom apartments and one four-bedroom apartment.
The apartments will be ready in time for the fall 2018 semester.
“Construction is on track,” Harless said. “We’re having flooring, cabinets and countertops installed in a lot of the building. Move-in day is August 1.”
The leasing office is on-site, Harless said, and hard-hat tours are available to anyone interested in viewing the unit.
