State Urgent Care, located at 521 South Montgomery St., is expanding the clinic which will allow for more patients to be seen each day.
State Urgent Care opened August 31, 2015, and has outgrown it's building since that time. The clinic is adding 2,000 square feet of space, which will include three exam rooms, two procedure rooms, a nurse's station, a waiting room and storage.
Office Manager Martha Glasner said construction on the new space has already begun and should be completed by June.
Owner and nurse practitioner Courtney Nickels said on average, State Urgent Care sees between 45 and 55 patients per day, and the addition will allow for the two nurse practitioners to see around 30 more patients daily.
"We were up in the 100's several times a month ago, which was very uncomfortable," Nickels said. "We had to start staffing two nurse practitioners, because one nurse practitioner can't see that many patients in those hours."
Glasner said the clinic sees a lot of college students and pediatric patients, and the clinic's busiest hours are at 8 a.m. and then again at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. when patients are getting out of school and after work.
"We're hoping the more rooms, the less wait times and the more patients we can see each day," Glasner said.
State Urgent Care is open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily, and provides care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries without an appointment.
