Ellis Agnew is retiring from Starkville Utilities after 33 years on the job.
Agnew started out as a water department laborer, and moved up through the years to become a foreman.
"I install water lines, fix water leaks and other maintenance on water lines," Agnew said.
Agnew's last day with Starkville Utilities will be March 30.
"It's been fun working with everyone, and I'll still be around for advice," he said. "But I think I made the right decision, and after 33 years it's time to move on."
In his retirement, Agnew said he plans to take a road trip to Colorado and learn the Bible cover-to-cover.
"My biggest goal and what I really want to do is learn to really read the Bible and understand it," he said. "Reading the Bible is not like reading a book, so I want to read it and learn to understand it."
Agnew said he also plans to continue working part-time in his personal business, Agnew's Gutter Cleaning and Pressure Washing Services. He also works in the pressroom at Starkville Daily News bundling newspapers.
"He's a great worker, and he's really going to be missed," Starkville Utilities water superintendent Sean Johnston said.
