During Tuesday night's meeting, the Maben Board of Aldermen approved a resolution to begin the application process for the community development block grant with the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District.

GTPDD project analyst Phylis Benson said the grant would go toward sewer improvement in city infrastructure.

Benson said the first phase of the project from 2017 must be finished by April 6 for the city to be eligible for the 2018 grant.

The CDBG program is available to fund publicly-owned infrastructure for community-based projects in municipalities and counties.

The grant requires at least 51 percent of the persons benefitted must be of low and moderate income, as determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Benson said the maximum grant size is $450,000, and the grant is funded HUD.

Benson said she will attend a CDBG grant workshop on Feb. 22 and then a public hearing will be scheduled afterward.

The board will meet again at 5:30 p.m., March 6 at Maben City Hall.
