Investigators with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office are looking for a person of interest in a fatal hit and run on Old Highway 25 that left a Starkville man dead.

A surveillance video released by investigators shows what appears to be a white male in a blue shirt, standing by the suspect vehicle. No arrests have been made in this case as of Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Brett Watson of the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office told the SDN the incident involved two cars and a cyclist on Old Highway 25, north of Poor House Road at about 7:45 p.m. Monday night.

Watson said one vehicle remained on the scene and the other involved left. The vehicle that left the scene before emergency crews arrived was said to be a greenish-yellow Toyota Scion or Matrix, or a Camry iM. Investigators believe the vehicle will have damage to the undercarriage and wheel well.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed the identity of the victim as 23-year-old Dshante Nix.

Nix was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at 8:11 p.m. on Monday night.

Hunt said the body has been transported to Jackson for an autopsy.

Investigators also released security footage of a person of interest in the case, which is available on the department's Facebook page. No arrests had been made in the case as of press time on Tuesday night.
Watson said the suspect vehicle left heading north on Old Highway 25 into Starkville.

No other injuries were reported from the incident.
