A Starkville man has been arrested and charged following a shooting last week on Willie Road in Oktibbeha County that left one man injured.
Deputies with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department arrested 38-year-old Jerry Lee Obrien on Thursday, charging him with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department said in a press release Obrien is expected to be arraigned in Oktibbeha County Justice Court on Friday.
Obrien is currently being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
Officers responded last Thursday at about 8:30 p.m. to a call of a 22-year-old male suffering from a single gunshot wound on Willie Road.
The victim was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was last listed as being in stable condition.
The Starkville Daily News previously reported the suspect in the shooting exited their vehicle during an argument and fired three to four shots at the victim.
A five-year-old child was also in the victim’s vehicle, but was not injured in the shooting.
If found guilty of aggravated assault, Obrien could face up to 20 years in prison for each individual count.
