No one? Really? Nobody knew who was the young man photographed next to a (now-)classic in July 1958, as shown in last week's picture? We hope it stirred memories for someone, but we wanted to identify the person and place. Like this week's picture the boy and car came from a scrapbook called “Do You Know Any of These People?” in the Starkville-Oktibbeha County Public Library's Genealogy Department archives. They were provided by Perian Kerr, genealogy librarian, who said the album was donated by the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum.
We want to help identify them. So we'll try again, with this picture of a pretty young woman taken by the Garner & Co. studio. Did she travel all the way to Columbus or Oxford to have this taken? Was it for a special occasion? The thick, high-necked blouse couldn't have been comfortable in a Mississippi summer.
If anyone recognizes this long-ago portrait, or knows anything about it – even more about the photo studio – let us know at editor@starkvilledailynews.com and we'll put your answer in next week's edition.
